Menu Structure Overview
Root
Root Menus are where all the core menu builds are completed. This is the Root of the tree, and the children are the branches that split off the Root menu. If all your locations use the same exact menu, there's a chance you only need a Root menu.
Children
Children menus are menus that are under the Root menu. A child menu can have its own child and that can have another child, etc. so your menus can be organized how you see fit. It's important to note that the children menus inherit all the properties of the Root menu, as well as any of the child menus above it (we call these parent menus).
There are several clients that use a limited number of menus that are then assigned to various restaurants. Other clients have a different menu for each restaurant, and thus, each restaurant has its own menu represented as a child of the root menu.
Assigning Menus to Restaurants
A menu is assigned to a restaurant under the individual restaurant's settings in the new admin. Here you navigate to Menu and select the menu you want to assign via the drop down menu.
Note: on this page is the Menu Sync Eligible toggle. This toggle should only be set to true if the store uses a full menu sync from the POS and doesn't use a menu maintained in the Onosys admin.

Categories
Category Groups
A category group is an optional item, in order to group together collections of categories. For example, you could have a "Pizzas" category group, containing the Specialty Pizzas and Thin Crust Pizzas categories.
Categories
A category is a group of products that is presented to customers. A category could have specific availability such as certain days of the week or hours of the day (e.g. Brunch menu).
Menu Elements
Products
Products are the menu items that a customer sees when they view a category at a restaurant. They are listed as the main items in the cart and on customer invoices.
Option Groups
An option group is the collection of questions (options) that a customer needs to answer before they can add a product to their cart. If a product has an option (group of modifiers), then it will have an option group. Due to this, the majority of products have an option group; option groups can be shared across products if the exact same set of questions and answers should be addressed.
Options
An option is a question that a customer needs to answer (e.g. What size? What flavor?) before they can add a selected product to their cart. Options also present the template for the option items (modifiers), such as drop down, radio, check box, etc.
Option Items
An option item is an answer to a question that a customer must address (e.g. Small, Medium, and Large are answers to a product’s “what size?” question/option) before they can add a selected product to their cart. These are also known as 'modifiers' in other systems.
Toppings
Toppings
A topping is a product modifier that can be associated with multiple price points (e.g. adding a topping to a small pizza is less expensive than adding it to a medium pizza) and versions (e.g. half toppings, double toppings, etc.). Pricing for toppings is on the product or the size option item.
Topping Groups
A topping group is a collection of similar toppings; most commonly, we’ll see toppings broken into groups like Veggies, Proteins, and Cheeses & More.
Topping Sets
A topping set is a collection of topping groups. Topping Sets are added to products and a product can have one set assigned to it.
Combos
Combos
A combo is a collection of products that can be offered as a bundle. Many times, these items are discounted, such as Pizza and Wings for $30.00.
Combo Selections
Combo selections are where you group products together. You can hide sizes, modifiers, etc. and set min/max toppings on an item, as well as override prices of the products. You can have several combo selections attached to a combo.
Side Dishes
Side Dish Groups
Side Dish Groups are groupings of items that are offered as upsells. The most common side dish group used is for end of order upsells. We offer smart upsells where items are updated based on what is in the cart. Side Dish Groups can also be added to individual products as well.
